Dammen in Delfzijl
The Groningen Seaports Masters 2008 is an international invitational tournament with 12 grandmasters of draughts. It takes place from the 20th until the 27th of December.
The tournament will be held in the Theater and Congress centre “De Molenberg” in Delfzijl (NL).

With the Groningen Seaports Masters the organization wants to combine the international ambitions of the fourth seaport of the Netherlands and those of the international business firms in the region of the Eemsdelta, with this international draughts tournament.
The best players of the world join into the Groningen Seaports Masters 2008, they come from four continents. We received already the registrations of world champion Alexander Schwarzman and his challenger Alexander Georgiev, both from Russia. As well as those from the brand-new female world champion Darya Tkachenko from the Ukraine and the dethroned world champion Tamara Tansykkuzhina, also from Russia.
For the rest we received the registrations form vice – world champion Mark Podolski from Germany; two of the strongest players from Africa: Leopold Kouogueu from Cameroun and Macadou N’Diaye from Senegal. Also the best player of Asia: Dul Erdenebileg from Mongolia and form South America: Allan Silva (Brazil).
At last but not at least, ten times world champion Alexei Tsjizjov and the Dutch old champions, from our own province Groningen: Auke Scholma and Martin Dolfing.
During the tournament draughts legend Ton Sijbrands gives his comment upon the matches on Saturday the 20th, on Sunday the 21st and on Friday the 26th and Saturday the 27th of December in a special room for the public.
